A woman was shot to death on a Washington D.C. sidewalk: an alleged case of domestic violence is being investigated
The man identified as a suspect died after a confrontation with agents who intercepted a bus where he had boarded after the incident
A woman died Tuesday morning in Washington D.C. after being shot in the middle of the street in an event that authorities are investigating as an alleged homicide linked to domestic violence.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:10 a.m. m., as reported by the acting chief of the Metropolitan Police, Jeff Carroll, in statements reported by ABC.
Several people witnessed the attack and watched as the alleged attacker left the scene and boarded a bus.
Police intercepted the bus and evacuated passengers
After receiving the alert, agents located the vehicle and made an arrest to evacuate those traveling in it.
Carroll explained that five passengers were still inside when officers approached the suspect.
According to the official version, during the contact the man took a gun out of a bag and pointed it at one of the agents. Two officers responded with gunfire.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities indicated the gun had an extended magazine, which police explained increased the potential amount of ammunition available.
Authorities investigate a possible relationship between victim and suspect
According to the police chief, the preliminary investigation indicates that the victim and the suspect had a previous relationship.
Authorities believe that this link could be related to the motive for the attack, although the investigation remains open.
During a press conference, Carroll called the case a tragic situation and expressed condolences to family members and people close to those who were involved.
Police indicated that this is the second homicide related to domestic violence recorded this year in that jurisdiction.
So far, authorities have not publicly released the identities of the deceased.
