Five women injured after alleged acid attack in New Jersey

New Jersey authorities are investigating an attack that occurred Monday night in Jersey City after five women were injured by a corrosive substance thrown from a moving vehicle.
According to information released by local officials and reported by the New York Post, the victims were inside a car on Wilkinson Avenue when two people traveling on a moped-type motorcycle approached and threw a liquid that was later preliminarily identified as sulfuric acid.
The authorities consider that the attack would have been specifically directed against the occupants of the vehicle and are analyzing a possible relationship with a previous dispute.
The identities of the women have not been released so far.
The victims were hospitalized with burns and skin lesions.
According to initial reports, the five women were taken to local hospitals.
Reported injuries include burns and skin peeling associated with exposure to a corrosive substance.
Authorities indicated that none of the victims have life-threatening injuries.
All remain in stable condition.
Jersey City Mayor James Solomon called the incident a serious attack and expressed support for those affected.
In a public statement, he noted that this type of violence has no place in the community and assured that he instructed the Jersey City Police Department to use all available resources to advance the investigation.
So far no arrests have been made.
Authorities continue to gather evidence to determine the circumstances of the attack and identify those responsible.
