Two Hispanics murdered the same night in Houston: investigators are looking into whether the same suspect killed both
The victims, identified as Rafael Xe Rax and Jose Angel Cuz, were murdered in separate scenes a few meters apart, in southwest Houston
The tragedy struck two Guatemalan families on Friday, November 7, on Windswept Street, southwest of Houston, Texas. Within minutes, two men were murdered in separate locations, but just steps away from each other. The first victim was identified as Rafael Xe Rax, 31. His family is still trying to understand what happened. His wife, Sonia Melania, expressed the profound grief she is experiencing after the loss of her partner:
“It hurts, I don't know how I'm going to explain to my child that his father has died.”
Desperate attempt to save him
The victim's brother, Samuel Xe Rax, recounted the moment he tried to help him after the attack: “He was lying on the floor, I ran over, picked him up, and said, 'Don't die, brother.' But my brother didn't speak to me anymore, he just looked at me.”
According to Samuel, minutes before the attack, Rafael had had an altercation with the alleged assailant, who had attacked him for no apparent reason.
Second victim in the same area
While the police were attending to the first homicide, a second crime scene shocked the neighborhood. A few meters away, the body of 21-year-old Jose Angel Cuz, also originally from Guatemala, was found. His brother, Joaquin Cuz, said that Jose Angel was attacked as he returned from work: "They left him on Hillcroft, on the street that connects to the ditch where he was murdered. He was coming home from work." Authorities investigate possible link. Houston Police are investigating whether the two murders are connected and if the same suspect is responsible for both deaths. The alleged assailant is a Hispanic man between 20 and 30 years old, who remains at large. Authorities are asking for the community's help in locating him.
