Senator Thom Tillis comes to defense of those who vandalized Washington's reflecting pool
Thom Tillis attacked Jeanine Pirro for asking to prosecute those accused of vandalizing the site where 4.5 million gallons of water are stored
Thom Tillis, senator from North Carolina, expressed solidarity with those allegedly responsible for vandalizing the reflecting pool located at the Lincoln Memorial, located in Washington.
The Democrat originally from New York attacked Jeanine Pirro, federal prosecutor, for setting the guidelines to prosecute those accused of vandalizing an area 2,030 feet long by 167 feet wide where approximately 4.5 million gallons of water are concentrated.
President Donald Trump ordered a restoration of the site, which involved an investment of $14.8 million.
However, just a few days ago, the layer of paint applied to the bottom began to peel off and algae began to appear rapidly.
The incident involved setting up a surveillance operation by the authorities and, in a short time, a group of people allegedly involved in the destructive operation were arrested, including David Hearn, a three-time Olympic athlete.
"These are very serious crimes related to the destruction of national monuments. Years in prison!" wrote President Donald Trump on the Truth Social platform on Saturday morning.
The words of the 80-year-old Republican were literally an order for prosecutor Pirro who, during an interview with the Fox News television network, anticipated dropping the full weight of justice on those allegedly responsible for the vandalism.
“Anyone found to have been in a position to vandalize or attempt to vandalize the Reflecting Pool will face the Washington D.C. criminal justice system. These cases will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Beautify Washington D.C. “It is a priority, and if you damage, vandalize or do anything that affects something like the reflecting pool, you can be prosecuted,” he warned.
In response, Democrat Tillis made reference to what happened to the people who forcibly entered the Capitol in January 2021 to prevent Joe Biden from being ratified as the winner of the presidential elections.
At that moment, the horde attacked several police officers who were trying to block their path and that led to their arrest.
However, Trump chose to pardon them when he returned to the White House, an action that Thom Tillis decided to take as a reference, demanding the release of those detained for allegedly vandalizing the reflecting pool.
"I don't know what seems worse to you, destroying a swimming pool or attacking a police officer? Now we have someone who, let's say, used a knife to break the lining of a swimming pool, are you going to sentence him to 10 years in prison?"
And you have released people who admitted to assaulting a police officer and you think I can take that person seriously? "No way!" said the Democrat.
