A 19-year-old Hispanic man was arrested in Miami, Florida, after allegedly repeatedly stabbing a friend during an argument sparked by the accidental spillage of beer on his cell phone, authorities said.

The accused was identified as Moises Mendoza, who faces charges of attempted second-degree murder The crime involved the tampering and manipulation of physical evidence, according to an arrest affidavit with probable cause.

Argument over a cell phone

According to the police report, the victim, suffering from multiple stab wounds, managed to flag down an officer shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Sunday in the area of ??Northwest 30th Avenue and Northwest 11th Street.

The victim explained that he, Mendoza, and others had spent the day fishing and then returned to a residence to cook the fish. While holding Mendoza's phone to change the music, he accidentally spilled beer on the device, which sparked an argument.

According to police, Mendoza accused the victim of doing it intentionally.

Although another person offered to drive the victim home, Mendoza got into the vehicle and the argument continued during the ride.

Stabs inside the vehicle

Authorities stated that, in the midst of the altercation, the victim threw beer at Mendoza, at which point the young man allegedly pulled out a kitchen knife with a red handle and stabbed him several times inside the car.

The victim managed to get out of the vehicle and ran for help, encountering an officer to whom he recounted what had happened.

Using surveillance cameras, the police traced the vehicle to a nearby apartment complex, where they observed bloodstains on the seat and floor of the car.

The owner of the vehicle stated that, after the attack, he dropped Mendoza off at his home and saw him dispose of the knife and the bloodstained shirt in a trash can.When officers arrived at the suspect's residence, Mendoza admitted to stabbing the victim, according to the police report. Mendoza was taken to the Miami-Dade jail, where he remains in custody without bail. At his court appearance, he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
