Who is Jesús Corona, the Mexican mayor wanted for links to drug trafficking
Jesús Corona Damián, mayor of Cuautla, Morelos, is investigated for alleged links to a criminal network that operates in the state
Federal authorities continue the search for Jesús Corona Damián, mayor of Cuautla, Morelos, as part of the reactivation of Operation Enjambre, a strategy focused on investigating alleged links between public officials and organized crime groups.
According to information released by the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, part of this operation included the arrest of other officials linked to the Cuautla City Council. However, the capture of Jesús Corona has not yet materialized.
According to federal reports, Corona Damián is being investigated for alleged links with a criminal network related to Júpiter Araujo Bernard, alias “El Barbas”, identified by authorities as a regional operator of the Sinaloa Cartel in the eastern area of Morelos.
The investigations indicate that there would have been protection or facilities for the activities of said criminal organization in the region.
The accusations against the mayor are not recent. Since 2025, the Attorney General's Office has opened files derived from a video in which various Morelos officials appeared meeting with alleged members of organized crime, including Jesús Corona Damián and other political actors in the entity.
Jesús Corona is a businessman and politician from Morelos who has twice held the municipal presidency of Cuautla.
He came to office again after the 2024 elections promoted by the coalition made up of PAN, PRI and PRD. In recent months, his administration has been under scrutiny due to investigations related to public security and alleged links between municipal officials and criminal groups.
The reactivation of Operation Enjambre is part of the federal strategy against corruption and the infiltration of organized crime in municipal governments.
According to García Harfuch, the actions in Morelos allowed the identification of a structure made up of public servants and individuals allegedly linked to crimes such as extortion, abuse of power and diversion of resources.
So far, the authorities have not reported the location of Jesús Corona Damián, who continues to be sought to answer the accusations being investigated against him.
