Vergil Ortiz says Crawford will be his number one fighter if he beats Canelo
Vergil Ortiz Jr. said he does not think Crawford can beat Canelo Alvarez because of the weight difference, but if he does, he will be the best.
Vergil Ortiz Jr. said that if Terence Crawford manages to defeat Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, Alvarez on September 13 and takes the undisputed super middleweight championship from him, the American will become his number one favorite fighter.
“I don't think he will, but if he beats Canelo, he will be my number one fighter of all time. I respect Crawford and everything he does, but he just moved up from 147 pounds, so I'm going to treat him like a 147-pound boxer. He's moving up three divisions to fight someone who was number one in boxing,” he said.
“The jump It would be difficult even if it were a top-10 fighter. Canelo has the advantage in size and strength. I think Crawford outsmarts him. I just think the weight difference will be the deciding factor. Crawford overplayed his hand a little. I'm not saying he can't, I just think Canelo will win, but if he does, he'll be my number one fighter of all time," he added.
According to some expert predictions, Terence Crawford will be at a weight disadvantage and won't be able to defeat the Mexican, but others believe that size won't be an issue as the American has the skills to beat the 168-pound champion on his own turf.
After the confrontation with Cuban William Scull, where the Mexican fighter was criticized for his lackluster performance, many experts in the sport have changed their opinion and see Bud with real chances of winning because they think that the tapatio is in decline.
If the American wins, he would become a three-time undisputed champion in different weight classes and would make history in the sport, while Canelo Alvarez could end Crawford's undefeated record and send him into retirement.
Terence Crawford, 38 years old, He became a four-division champion by defeating Israel Madrimov and remains one of the best pound-for-pound fighters. The two-time undisputed American champion now has 41 wins, 31 of them by knockout.
For his part, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, 34, became the undisputed super middleweight champion for the second time after defeating William Scull and now has a record of 63 wins (39 by knockout), two losses and two draws in his professional career.
