Florinda Meza Clarifies Controversial Comment About Chespirito Children: It Was a Joke
In a meeting with journalists, Florinda Meza took the opportunity to clarify her comment and stated that she was referring to a song.
Actress Florinda Meza, recognized for giving life to the iconic character of Dona Florinda in Chespirito's programs, once again captures public attention by clarifying one of her most controversial comments: the one in which she referred to Graciela Fernandez —Roberto Gomez Bolanos' wife— and her six children as “defects.”
Far from taking it as an offense, Meza insists it was “just a joke.”
The whole commotion started after the documentary series 'Chespirito: Sin querer queriendo', released on HBO Max. In it, her relationship with Roberto Gomez Bolanos —the legendary Chespirito— is portrayed as a love triangle that put her marriage to Graciela Fernandez in jeopardy.
Later, an old interview resurfaced on social media in which Meza, while talking about her romance with the comedian, referred to his wife and their six children as his “biggest flaws.” The statements, made in a confessional and somewhat crude tone, generated a wave of criticism, memes, and debates about ethics, love, and loyalty.
Now, after weeks of controversy, Florinda Meza came out to clarify that it was all "a joke."
What did she say?
During a spontaneous meeting with the press at Mexico City International Airport, the 75-year-old actress responded humorously to questions about the scandal:
Meza reiterated that her words were taken out of context and that she never intended to offend Gomez Bolanos' family.
In previous posts on social media, she had already clarified that she considered Roberto “a perfect man,” and that when she mentioned his children and wife as “defects,” she was referring only to the complications they represented for starting a romantic relationship with him at that time.
“If they were mine they would be wonderful, but not being mine they were a problem and a defect. A lot of effort was required,” she had said in the original interview, a phrase that she herself now recognizes as exaggerated and said with ironic intent.
Curiously,In that same interview, when Chespirito heard Meza's comment live, he didn't stay silent. Calmly but firmly, he responded:
Beyond the clarifications, Florinda Meza's comment continues to generate debate. Was it really a misinterpreted joke? Or was it a crude truth, disguised as humor?
