“Gilmore Girls” leaves Netflix: where can you watch the series?
The series starring Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel will leave the platform on June 30 in the United States, after 12 years
Nearly two decades after its television finale, 12 years from its seemingly stable home on Netflix and a decade since the “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” special, the beloved series is back on the move. And this time, the destination is unclear.
Netflix announced on Monday that, starting June 30, the seven original seasons of Gilmore Girls will no longer be available in its catalog in the United States. "Is it a show? It's a lifestyle. It's a religion," the streamer wrote on X, citing dialogue from the first season. “We are sorry to say that seasons 1-7 of Gilmore Girls will be leaving Netflix in the United States on June 30. Raising a cup of coffee to every fan who visited Stars Hollow with us.”
The end of an era for Netflix and for fansThe news marks a turning point. “Gilmore Girls,” the small-town comedy-drama centered on the relationship between Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, originally aired for seven seasons on The WB (and later The CW). It arrived on Netflix in 2014, and two years later the platform premiered the revival miniseries “A Year in the Life,” which, although controversial, reignited passion for the series.
For years, Netflix was the only service that offered both the original series and its sequel. Hulu only acquired the streaming rights in 2024, and it is also currently available on Disney .
But Netflix's departure represents a symbolic blow: “Gilmore Girls” regularly appeared among the platform's most streamed series, and even re-entered Nielsen's top 10 as recently as October.
