Itati Cantoral denies having been a victim of violence during her relationship with Alexis Ayala
The actress spoke about the relationship she had with the telenovela heartthrob in the nineties, assuring that he never crossed the line of respect
Amid the stir generated by the announcement of her joining the cast of "Mentiras, el musical," actress Itati Cantoral became the target of questions about the controversy surrounding her ex-partner, actor Alexis Ayala, for alleged mistreatment of Paty Diaz.
With her characteristic outspokenness, the star of telenovelas like “La Mexicana y el Guero” and “Hasta que el dinero nos separe” assured that her experience with the telenovela villain was pleasant and never crossed the line of respect.
“He always got along with my parents. He proposed very quickly, I was engaged, I had my wedding dress, and it didn't work out. He was a very nice man, very respectful,” she explained to the media during the play's press conference.
And despite the 10-year age difference, their strong connection led them to a passionate romance that, against all odds, ended before they could tie the knot: “Alexis was nine years older than me, so it's still a big age difference, but he was very respectful, he was a great boyfriend,” she added.
When directly questioned about the accusations made by the former partner of Ayala, Itati Cantoral preferred to remain silent and limit herself to sharing details of her experience.
“I didn't suffer mistreatment, that is, I didn't suffer violence. I only suffered a heartbreak. I think it was, yes, my first heartbreak was with Alexis Ayala, but it was just a relationship issue, we didn't get along,” she said to conclude.
The controversy between Alexis Ayala and his ex-partner Paty Diaz began after the actress took to her social media to share her testimony about the alleged verbal and emotional abuse she suffered at the hands of the artist, after he provided details about a relationship on the program 24/7, the characteristics of which pointed to her being involved.
In the video,The small-screen star asserted that her time with Ayala was marked by threats that escalated to alarming levels: “He insulted me, assaulted me, tried to hit me, and told me, ‘I’m capable of burning the house down with you and your son inside so you both die,’” she recounted at the time. For his part, Alexis decided to address the accusations with a forceful message: “Life is too beautiful to hold grudges and things where there’s one side’s truth, the other person’s truth, and the truth, to try and clarify things. It’s not in my interest,” he said in an interview with Gerardo Escareno, from the YouTube program “Vaya, vaya.”
