A sudden fire broke out in a shed built for storing tomatoes in Delhi's Azadpur Mandi on Friday evening. The fire started in a plastic carat containing tomatoes and spread rapidly. A cloud of smoke spread all around. The people present there ran to save their lives. After receiving the information, 11 fire tenders reached the spot and controlled the fire after about an hour of effort. There has been no casualty in the incident. Police are assessing the cause of the fire and the damage caused by it.
Fire officials said, information was received about fire in a tomato shed near gate number one of Azadpur Mandi at 5.15 pm on Friday evening. Local people said that people started running here and there making noise to save their lives. The fire personnel who reached the spot took control of the incident spot and evacuated people from there. After that the fire brigade personnel started extinguishing the fire.
Fire officer Paras Kumar said that the fire personnel controlled the fire in 15 to 20 minutes and completely controlled the fire in about an hour. After initial investigation, the police officer said that thousands of plastic cartons were kept in the shed. It is suspected that the carat caught fire due to short circuit. Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
