Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's hopes for relief from the Supreme Court were deferred yet again on Tuesday. The apex court announced that the next hearing in the case pertaining to Delhi's Liquor Policy will convene on May 9. However, the exact date for the hearing remains uncertain, possibly taking place today, tomorrow, or even next week. Kejriwal, who has been incarcerated in Tihar jail for 47 days since his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21, would mark 49 days behind bars by the time of his interim bail hearing on May 9. If granted interim bail on that day, he could potentially secure release on his 50th day in jail.

Two separate benches in the Supreme Court are slated to consider Kejriwal's bail plea on Wednesday. Should there be any time available following the scheduled proceedings, the petition may be entertained. However, if not, a decision on Kejriwal's bail is likely to be deferred until Thursday or a subsequent week.

The suspense over Kejriwal's release continues, with his potential bail decision coinciding with his 49th day in jail on May 9. Yet, uncertainties loom as to whether a ruling will be reached on that day. Alternatively, May 10 will mark Kejriwal's 50th day in detention, heightening anticipation for a resolution. Nonetheless, Wednesday holds promise, as the High Court is set to hear the bail plea of former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia. A favorable outcome for Sisodia could potentially bolster Kejriwal's prospects for bail.

In the Supreme Court, Justices Sanjeev Khanna and Dipankar Dutta preside over Kejriwal's interim bail petition. During Tuesday's hearing, the judges directed numerous queries to the ED. The solicitor representing the ED, SV Raju, revealed that Kejriwal had not been a primary subject of the initial excise case investigation. However, his involvement emerged subsequently based on witness statements and evidence. Raju emphasized that the ED's scrutiny of witnesses aimed at uncovering truth, refuting assertions of targeted interrogation against Kejriwal. Furthermore, the ED asserted possessing evidence indicating Kejriwal's alleged solicitation of Rs 100 crore.
