Rouse Avenue Court Issues Notice to ED on Arvind Kejriwal’s Bail Plea
The Rouse Avenue Court has issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding Arvind Kejriwal's bail plea in the money laundering case linked to the excise policy. Kejriwal has filed two pleas: one seeking regular bail and the other requesting interim bail for seven days.
ED Required to Respond
The court has instructed the ED to submit its reply on the interim bail application by June 1 and on the regular bail application by June 7. During today's hearing, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju, representing the ED, requested additional time to file a response, citing hidden facts in the petition that the ED wishes to present to the court.
ED’s Objections
ASG Raju argued that while Kejriwal is seeking interim bail due to alleged health issues, he is simultaneously campaigning in Punjab. Raju contended that Kejriwal's health does not appear to be affecting his election activities and accused him of filing the application last minute to hinder the ED's response time.
The court responded by stating, “We are issuing notice on both applications. Kejriwal's interim bail application is scheduled for a hearing on June 1.”
Surrender Deadline Approaches
On May 10, the Supreme Court granted Kejriwal interim bail until June 1 for election campaigning. According to this order, Kejriwal must surrender on June 2. Kejriwal had previously sought an extension of his interim bail by seven days from the Supreme Court, citing medical advice for several tests, including PET-CT and Holter monitor tests to check for cancer.
However, the Supreme Court registry declined to accept his petition for hearing, advising that Kejriwal could approach the lower court for regular bail.
