Matías Almeyda puts Liga MX among the best in the world after his time in Seville
The new Rayados coach assured that Mexican soccer is underestimated and considers it one of the most competitive championships in the world.
Matías Almeyda's return to Mexican football began with a clear message. During his presentation as Monterrey's new coach, the Argentine strategist defended the level of Liga MX and assured that, despite the criticism he usually receives, it is among the most demanding competitions on the planet.
The coach, Liga MX champion with Chivas and winner of the Concacaf Champions League, returns to the country with the mission of returning Rayados to prominence and building a project capable of competing for titles in the short term.
Almeyda assures that Liga MX is one of the best in the world
During his first appearance before the media as coach of Monterrey, Almeyda highlighted the competitiveness of the Mexican championship and explained that one of the main reasons for his return was precisely the level that the league offers.
"For me, Mexican soccer means a lot, I wanted to return after traveling around the world because here they have a league that many minimize, but for me, it is one of the best there is. It is a highly competitive championship, that's why I decided to return to try to win again," said the coach in his presentation.
The Argentine's statements come at a time when Liga MX continues to seek to consolidate its international presence and raise its prestige within the continent.
The coach fully trusts in the talent of the Mexican soccer player
One of the aspects that the new Rayados strategist highlighted most was the technical quality of the Mexican players, a characteristic that he considers essential for the development of any successful project.
Almeyda recalled that from his first stage in Mexico he found players with great conditions and assured that he will seek to enhance that talent within his squad.
"I follow the Mexican league, I like the Mexican player, I like the technique they have and I am sure that I am going to bring out players here to show that they have the quality and the desire to succeed. It is the same thing that I have thought since the first time I coached in this country," he explained.
Monterrey begins a new stage under the command of Almeyda
After experiences in clubs such as AEK Atenas and Sevilla, the Argentine coach faces one of the most important challenges of his recent career: rebuilding a team that is coming off a disappointing campaign.
In Clausura 2026, Monterrey failed to qualify for the final phase of the championship, a result that increased pressure on the institution and accelerated changes in the sports structure.
Despite this, Almeyda made it clear that he does not believe in immediate solutions and that success will be the result of a solid process.
"I like challenges and I am not one to make excuses. Promising is not in my way of being, that is why I say that I must first build the foundations. Monterrey is a castle in Mexican soccer that has had brilliant moments and that lately the results have not been given, it is under reconstruction and that will take time, a time that we will try to be short to win quickly, but magic does not exist," he pointed out.
The objective is to return Rayados to the foreground
The demands in Monterrey are one of the highest in Mexican football and Almeyda is aware of this. However, he reiterated that the path to titles will depend on collective work and the consolidation of a stable sports project.
"The titles are going to come because I believe in processes and work. Here is a project that is going to be put together little by little, it is up to us to once again make Monterrey a winning team with which our fans feel proud, but I am not a magician. I am a coach who believes in teamwork," the coach reiterated.
Dennis te Kloese supports the new Monterrey project
The presentation also included the participation of Dennis te Kloese, new sports president of Rayados, who expressed his confidence in the project headed by Almeyda and highlighted the institution's ambition to compete for championships again.
"I am excited to return to Mexico, I am happy that they invited me to build this new project. I welcome Matías Almeyda. There is a great demand and we are going to fulfill it," said the manager.
With the arrival of Matías Almeyda, Monterrey begins a new stage marked by sporting reconstruction, confidence in Mexican talent and the ambition to return to the elite of Liga MX.
