West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose on Saturday assured BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar that there would be a 'zero tolerance' policy towards corruption and no one would be allowed to take law into their own hands in the state. During the one-on-one meeting at the Raj Bhavan, the governor also assured Majumdar that the upcoming panchayat elections in the state would be free and fair.

A statement issued by the Raj Bhavan said that the Governor ensures that they are accessible to the common man. There will be a policy of zero tolerance as far as corruption is concerned. No one will be allowed to take law in their hands. Law and order will be meticulously maintained and effective and proactive interventions will be made at appropriate times. Violence has no place in elections and free and fair polling will be ensured in the upcoming Panchayat elections. 

Majumdar informed Bose about the state of affairs in West Bengal. He also alleged that corruption is on the rise in the state, and the law and order situation has deteriorated. Mazumdar also informed the governor that the implementation of MGNREGA, PMAY(G) and PMGSY by the state government was found to be lacking and there were gross irregularities and corruption all around.

Notably, the state government had recently written to the Center seeking immediate release of funds under the PM Awas Yojana (PMAY), noting that if there was any further delay, the state would be unable to complete the construction of 11 lakh houses. fails to meet the March 31 deadline. The TMC-ruled West Bengal government is also pressing for immediate release of dues to the state under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA).
