Sheinbaum assures that the consulate attends to Mexicans affected by floods in Texas
The Mexican president expressed her condolences for those who died in the floods in Texas
The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, confirmed this Monday the assistance of the Mexican consulate in San Antonio (Texas) to thirty Mexicans after the floods registered in the center-south of the North American state that has exceeded eighty fatalities.
“Due to the floods, the consulate of Mexico in San Antonio is providing assistance to thirty Mexicans, nine requested support to return to Mexico, sixteen requested the replacement of destroyed passports, four did not make a request, since they are in the United States with a work visa and are assisted by contracting agencies,” said the Mexican president during her morning press conference.
Sheinbaum expressed her “condolences to all those who died, all the families who lost a relative in these floods.”
She also commented that the consulate “remains in constant communication with the families and when weather conditions permit, they will visit the shelters.”
Given the magnitude of the tragedy, US President Donald Trump signed a declaration of emergency due to a natural disaster to address the disaster.
Trump's decision allows the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to be activated in the area to support local and state authorities, according to the Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS), Kristi Noem, in a statement.
