Trump Threatens to Take Federal Control of Washington DC after Attack on Federal Worker
The president demanded that local minors and gang members over the age of 14 be prosecuted as adults
This comes after Edward Coristine, a former DOGE official in the United States capital, reported on Sunday, August 3, that he was attacked by a group of teenagers during an attempted carjacking.
Therefore, in a post on his Truth Social platform, the president said he would “federalize” the city if local authorities did not address crime, and specifically asked that minors under the age of 14 be prosecuted as adults.
“Crime in Washington, DC, is totally out of control,” Trump wrote. "If Washington, DC, doesn't get its act together quickly, we'll have no choice but to take federal control of the city and govern it properly." According to his testimony, around a dozen teenagers approached the car the former official was in with his partner early Sunday morning and attacked him. Authorities arrested two 15-year-old boys from Hyattsville, Maryland, and charged them with unarmed carjacking.
In that context, among the immediate reactions was Trump, who accused: Local youths and gang members, some as young as 14, 15, and 16, indiscriminately attack, assault, maim, and shoot innocent citizens, knowing that they will be released almost immediately. They don't fear law enforcement because they know nothing ever happens to them, but it's going to happen.
In a Tuesday post on his social media platform, President Trump published a photo of Coristine apparently taken after the attempted carjacking, showing him sitting on the ground, shirtless, with his face and body stained with what appears to be blood.
Therefore, The president warned that "it is necessary" to modify the law in the US capital, with the goal of being able to try and arrest minors belonging to these groups as adults from the age of 14.
