A constellation of stars will attend the inauguration of Barack Obama's presidential library
Stevie Wonder, Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Hudson are some of the artists confirmed for the inauguration of the Obama Presidential Library
Everything is practically ready for Barack Obama's presidential library to be inaugurated on Thursday, a building that delayed its construction for several years despite the fact that nearly $850 million dollars were allocated to the project.
After five years of beginning the formal construction of the Obama presidential library and museum, it is a few hours away from opening its doors in Chicago.
The opening festivities will take place from June 19 to 21 and during those days access will be offered free of charge.
Due to the significance that having such emblematic facilities of American political history and culture will have for the inhabitants of Chicago, the committee in charge of the opening ceremony is preparing a great show to which international artists such as: Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, Christina Aguilera, John Legend, The Roots, Common, Jennifer Hudson, Marc Anthony, Tems and Bono were invited; and The Edge by U2.
Through a statement, Valerie Jarrett, executive director of the Obama Foundation, shared her optimism that the inauguration will be filled with music, providing a pleasant surprise for those who come to see the new venue.
"It will be unlike any other: it will be filled with music, performances and hope. The grand opening ceremony will reflect a spirit of inspiration and joy, with a huge boost from the artists who will share their talents with us. We hope to inspire people around the world to believe in their power to create change in their homes," he wrote.
The complex located in the historic Jackson Park neighborhood, on the South Side of the Windy City, houses a museum, offices of the Obama Foundation, a branch of the Chicago Public Library and a children's playground.
Those who live outside of Chicago and wish to follow the inauguration event remotely will be broadcast live through the Obama Foundation's social networks. The event starts at 11:00 a.m. local time and at 12:00 p.m. EDT.
Barack Obama, the nation's former president, as well as his wife Michelle Obama, former first lady, are scheduled to give a couple of speeches praising their time in the White House.
