Israel follows in Trump's footsteps and announces withdrawal from several international agencies
The severity of relations includes seven agencies and organizations, including some linked to the United Nations
Israeli Foreign Ministry announced Tuesday the severing of relations with three international organizations, including two UN agencies, following the United States' withdrawal from 66 global bodies last week.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry reported that Minister Gideon Saar had also ordered a review of Israel's cooperation with an unspecified number of others organizations.
In a statement on the network Israeli Foreign Ministry accused it of not inviting Israel to participate, stating that "for years it has been used as a platform for attacks against Israel." its agencies of bias against it, especially after the Hamas attack of October 7, 2023. Israel has repeatedly accused UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, of providing cover for Hamas militants and maintains that some of its employees participated in that attack. In 2024, two laws were passed prohibiting the agency from operating in Israeli territory and having contact with Israeli authorities. Last week, UNRWA announced it would lay off 571 of its employees outside the Gaza Strip, citing “financial difficulties.” Last week,US President Donald Trump signed a memorandum ordering the withdrawal of the United States from 66 international organizations because they “no longer serve US interests,” according to the White House. Trump's order referred to 31 UN organizations and 35 other entities, and included the three bodies from which Israel withdrew on Tuesday.
