The Hitmen: no more behind the scenes
Producers of reggaeton hits for other stars decide to release their own musical production
Chances are you don't know who The Hitmen are, although chances are you've heard them over and over and over again.
Kristian Ginorio, “Lelo” and Emanuel Infante, “Jazzy”, are the geniuses behind many reggaeton hits that have been performed by artists such as Wisin y Yandel, Jay Wheeler, Dalex, Justin Quiles and many others.
Now, after two decades of dedicating themselves to producing songs for others, Lelo and Jazzy decided that it was time to make an album in which they were the protagonists. No more behind the scenes.
“We've always been behind the curtain,” Jazzy said. “This is the first time we've introduced ourselves as artists, and our first album is very exciting, it's like our first baby.”
The album is called “Season 1”, and it is still in the production process, although in recent months they have released some songs that have given a taste of what this pair is preparing, such as “La culpa”, which they recorded with Wisin and De la Ghetto.
It was not a lack of will that was the reason why this duo had not recorded an album. The desire was always there and there were several attempts, but for some reason, the stars were not aligned.
“We've tried several times,” Lelo said. “But this time everything kind of fell into place, it fell into place in a very organic way that we were able to achieve this album with so many [friends] together that were incredible for us.”
This year they also celebrate their twenty years as a duo, like the Midas kings of reggaeton. And the process was spontaneous, organic, without much planning, they said. They arrived at the studio and began to record what came out of their minds, until the album took shape.
“The culprit” was an idea that they had, they gave it in Medellín, Colombia, to Fanta, a friend of theirs, and they began to work on it. The only thing they were clear about was the friends they wanted to have as guests.
“We work from scratch, and that's something we love to do too,” Jazzy said, “and the artists too, the composers love it when we make these songs from scratch.”
The Hitmen—Lelo is Puerto Rican and Jazzy is Ecuadorian—will announce tour plans soon, as well as more collaborations and other surprises. They are putting together a complete show that they promise will be new and that will surprise more than one.
“Season 2” is also already cooking in the oven, because these guys are just taking off.
