How is Baisakhi Celebrated?

The festivities of Baisakhi are characterized by vibrant celebrations, with the Sikh community adorning Gurudwaras, listening to Guru Vani, and offering special prayers in their homes. Additionally, people gather outdoors to perform traditional dances like Bhangra and Giddha, spreading joy and camaraderie. The day is also marked by the exchange of greetings, hugs, and the sharing of delectable sherbets and special dishes.

History of Baisakhi Festival:

The origins of the Baisakhi festival date back to 30 March 1699 when Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Guru of the Sikh community, established the Khalsa Panth. This historic event marked a pivotal moment in Sikh history, as Guru Gobind Singh Ji called upon his followers to step forward and dedicate themselves to the Guru and the divine. Those who answered the call were known as the Panj Pyare, or the five beloved ones of the Guru.
