The International Cricket Council (ICC) has shortlisted the names of the players for the 2022 annual award. Explosive batsman Suryakumar Yadav of India has been selected in T20. Apart from him, three other players were also shortlisted. Not a single Indian player has got a place in ODIs. There is one player from Pakistan in both the formats.

Apart from Suryakumar Yadav, Sikandar Raza of Zimbabwe, Sam Karan of England and Mohammad Rizwan of Pakistan have been selected for the Player of the Year Award. At the same time, the names of Australia's Adam Zampa, Zimbabwe's Sikandar Raza and West Indies' Shai Hope were shortlisted along with Pakistan captain Babar Azam. Sikandar Raza is the only player to be shortlisted for the award in both the formats.

Suryakumar scored 1164 runs in 31 T20 matches in 2022. It has been a great year for him. He is only the second batsman to score more than a thousand runs in a year. He is the highest run scorer in T20 this year. His strike rate was 187.43. Suryakumar also hit the maximum 68 sixes this year. During this, he scored two centuries and nine half-centuries.

During the T20 World Cup in Australia, Suryakumar Yadav scored three half-centuries in six innings. During this, he scored 239 runs at an average of 59.75 and a strike rate of 189.68. This year, Suryakumar Yadav scored centuries against England and New Zealand and also reached the number one position in the ICC T20 rankings.
