India defeated Australia by an innings and 132 runs in the first match of the four-Test series. With this win in Nagpur, Team India went ahead 1-0 in the series. Australia scored 177 runs in the first innings. Then Team India scored 400 runs in the first innings. The Kangaroo team was reduced to 91 runs in the second innings. She could not even play a full session. Indian captain Rohit Sharma gave his opinion about many things after the match. He said that he did not expect Australia to be all out in one session.

Rohit taught the Australian team how to play spin on the controversy over the Nagpur pitch. He said that one has to change his attitude to play on such pitches. The Australian media had accused Team India of tampering with the pitch before the match. Regarding the pitch, Rohit said that to be successful on the wickets of the Indian subcontinent, one needs to play according to the plan.

Rohit said, "The kind of pitches we have been playing in India for some time now, you have to adopt different methods to score runs. These methods are not traditional. You have to plan the left. I want to play cricket in India. There is lot of ball rotation on pitches. You have to find different ways. Use your feet, play some different shots to put the bowler under pressure. You can also play sweep shot or reverse sweep. ''

Captain Rohit heaped praise on India's spin-bowling duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. He said that captaining the duo is like captaining Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc in Australia. He said, “Ashwin is looking like a different bowler. I wouldn't say a better bowler than before because he was always a good bowler but whenever he plays Test cricket he looks a different bowler. That's what good cricketers do. They try and elevate their game and try to reach the next level."

Asked about the feeling of captaining a team comprising Ashwin, Jadeja and Akshar Patel, Rohit said, "It's (Pat) in Australia. It is like captaining Cummins, (Josh) Hazlewood and (Mitchell) Starc.
