Mexican national team will have a special training camp with players from the Liga MX at the end of August
Javier Aguirre seeks to connect with the local tournament players ahead of the September friendlies against Japan and South Korea
The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) announced that the Mexican national team will hold a special training camp with players from the League MX at the end of August from the 25th to the 26th. On August 27th, a training camp will be held in which only Liga MX players will participate.
In a press release, the directors explained that the 3 days will serve as an opportunity for coach Javier Aguirre to continue his preparations for the 2026 World Cup, in which Mexico will host along with the United States and Canada.
The players who will participate with their clubs in the Leagues Cup Semifinals, which will take place on those dates, and those of the Mexico U-20 team that is preparing for the World Cup in their category will not be called by Aguirre.
The official call-up of the director coach Javier Aguirre will be announced next Friday, August 22," the FMF added in the statement.
Vasco Aguirre's Mexico has had a positive 2025, after winning the Concacaf Nations League for the first time last March and last July obtaining the Gold Cup championship twice.
El Tri's next commitment will be the friendly matches in September against Japan, on the 6th, and against South Korea, on the 9th; both on US soil.
The August training camp will allow Aguirre to see players from the local tournament who are in good form but have not had many opportunities, such as Angel Sepulveda, from Cruz Azul and the top scorer of the 2025 Apertura tournament, or Jesus Angulo, one of the best midfielders for champion Toluca.
In addition, Vasco will be able to work with a large part of the base of his call-ups, such as Alexis Vega and Marcel Ruiz, from Toluca; Luis Angel Malagon, goalkeeper for America, and Roberto Alvarado, for Guadalajara.
In 2026, Mexico will try to repeat its best performance in a World Cup: a quarter-final, which it reached in the other two editions in which it organized the competition (1970 and 1986).
