About two months before the upcoming ODI World Cup, Cricket Australia has announced an 18-member squad for the marquee tournament. Pat Cummins will be seen captaining the Australian team in the ODI World Cup. There will be a maximum of 15 players in a squad for the World Cup. According to Cricket Australia, out of these 18 players, 15 players will be selected and the rest will be kept in reserve.
Labushen out
Australia played the last ODI in India in March. Marnus Labushen was also included in the Australian team then. However, Labushen is not named in the team selected for the World Cup. That is, he has been dropped from the World Cup plan and team. Labushen, who has a great average in Tests, has not performed well in ODIs. So far in 30 ODIs, he has scored 847 runs at an average of 31.37. These include one century and six half-centuries.
Hazlewood and Cummins return
Cummins did not play on the Indian tour due to personal reasons. He has also returned to the World Cup squad. Apart from this, fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has also made a comeback. Cummins wrist injury
According to Cricket Australia, captain Cummins suffered a wrist injury in the last Test of the Ashes. He suffered a broken wrist, which will keep him out of action for the next six weeks. However, he will make a comeback in the ODI series against South Africa followed by the ODI series against India. Australia's tour of South Africa will begin on August 30.
A three-match T20 series and then a five-match ODI series will be played on this tour. The ODI matches will be played from September 7 to September 17. After this series, 15 players will be final, who will go on India tour. The Australian team will play a three-match ODI series against India.
Vice-captain not selected
The thing to see is that Cricket Australia has not chosen any vice-captain. Josh Hazlewood was the vice-captain of the team in the ODI against England in November last year. At the same time, in March this year, in the absence of both Cummins and Hazlewood, Steve Smith was captained.
Sangha and hardy surprise package
At the same time, Tanveer Sangha and Aaron Hardy are the surprise package in this team. The 21-year-old Sangha suffered a back stress fracture last year, due to which he has been out of the team for a long time. In February 2021, he was selected for the T20 series on Australia's tour of New Zealand.
Maxwell will join the team from Indian tour
Glenn Maxwell, 34, will not play on the South African tour as he is going to be a father soon. After this, he will join the team from the Indian tour. The three-match ODI series between India and Australia will be played from September 22 to 27 in Mohali, Indore and Rajkot. The team has included four all-rounders in the form of Mitchell Marsh, Cameron Green, Marcus Stoinis and Sean Abbott.
