The authorities of the State of Mexico located the remains of four people in two clandestine graves located in the forested area of La Marquesa, in the municipality of Ocoyoacac, including two American citizens who had been reported missing since May 20.
As announced, the discovery was the result of a coordinated operation between the Attorney General's Office of the State of Mexico (FGJEM), the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Attorney General's Office of Mexico City and personnel specialized in searching for missing persons.
According to official reports, the bodies were found buried less than a meter deep in a place known as Valle del Silencio, behind several tourist cabins near the Insurgente Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla National Park, popularly known as La Marquesa.
Among the victims, according to national media, such as the magazine Proceso, Guillermo Jaffet Hidalgo Ortiz, 57, and Zafar Padamsee Mawani, 56, who had Mexican and American nationality, were identified. Both resided in Chicago and were temporarily in Huixquilucan, State of Mexico.
The couple disappeared on May 20 after leaving to meet with a person related to the purchase and installation of an elevator for people with disabilities. Before losing contact, they shared their real-time location with a close friend. Hours later, their cell phones stopped emitting signals.
Investigations indicate that the last recorded activity of both devices occurred around 6:20 p.m. that day. Later, relatives detected unusual bank transactions made one day after the disappearance, a situation that strengthened the lines of investigation into a possible kidnapping.
Sources close to the case indicated that the search efforts intensified after the analysis of telephone records, geolocation data and financial operations linked to the victims. Likewise, relatives requested the intervention of the United States Embassy in Mexico to follow up on the investigations because both resided permanently in Chicago.
The FGJEM reported that the proceedings continue to clarify the circumstances in which the events occurred and determine the identity of the other two people located in the clandestine graves.
