Premier League asks for patience by case of Manchester City and the Fair Play
Manchester City is being investigated for cases of financial irregularities since 2023
Richard Masters, executive chairman of the Premier League, asked for "patience" this Wednesday regarding the case of the alleged 130 financial irregularities that Manchester City has been facing since January 2023.
The Citizens team was accused by the Premier League more than two years ago and, despite Although the trial ended at the end of last year, there is still no verdict.
"It's in the hands of an independent tribunal. They are the ones who determine the process and the timing," Masters said this Wednesday at the Premier League's new season launch event in London. "They have heard the case and will decide the outcome. We have no influence on the timing."
"Whether it frustrates me or not is irrelevant. I can only wait. Legal processes rarely take less time than you think, but we have to be patient," Masters added.
The Citizens are facing 130 financial irregularities that occurred between 2009 and 2018, ranging from contractual problems to failing to provide correct information to the league. The possible sanction is unknown, but could range from a fine to the loss of points and relegation.
However, City maintains his innocence and, in addition to having denied the charges, has spent 325 million since January to renew the team.
Premier League does not plan to take the league abroad
Following La Liga's plans to take an official match to the United States, the Premier League leader detailed that the English league does not plan to do anything similar.
Although Masters explained that there was an idea of ??wanting to take the league abroad, the leader commented that they are happy to do other initiatives such as the Summer League in preseason.
"We examine the match 39 years ago, with a lot of controversy. I remember it very clearly,” Masters commented on a controversial 2008 proposal to stage an extra matchday abroad. “Our goal at the time, when we thought about it, was to help grow the Premier League around the world.”
"The Premier League is now a truly global league. There are billions of people who will tune in over the next nine months to watch Premier League action. So we've achieved that goal through different means; that need has disappeared."
