The confrontation between Fernando Gago and Las Chivas de Guadalajara already has a date
The match will be played in Aguascalientes and will mark the reunion between the Argentine coach and his former team
Club Necaxa's preparation schedule already has its last match defined before the start of the 2025 Apertura Tournament of the Liga MX. The team led by Fernando Gago will face Chivas de Guadalajara in a match that has generated great expectations, beyond the fact that it is a friendly.
The match is scheduled for July 5 in Aguascalientes and will mark the first face-to-face between the Argentine coach and his former club, which he abruptly left eight months ago.
After leaving Chivas, Gago took over at Boca Juniors, where he did not perform as expected. After that brief stint in Argentine football, Necaxa announced him as its new coach.
Before the highly anticipated clash with Rebaño Sagrado, the Aguascalientes team will have a series of preparation matches. The first will be on Friday, June 20, against Mineros de Zacatecas, a team from the Liga Expansión, at the Necaxa club's clubhouse. Five days later, on the 25th, they will face Querétaro at the La Loma sports facilities.
The friendly tour will continue in the nation's capital. Necaxa will face the Pumas de la UNAM on Saturday, June 28 at the Cantera Universidad, in what will be their third test before the start of the tournament.
Reinforcements, departures, and a roster to be defined
While Gago works on the sporting aspect, the club's board continues to fine-tune the details of the squad's formation. José Hanan, Necaxa's sporting director, confirmed that there will be busy weeks ahead in the search for reinforcements.
"We have already met with Fer (Gago) to discuss the reinforcements the team needs, knowing that it will also depend on any losses. To this day, we do not have an offer for any of our players," the manager indicated during the official presentation of the coach.
Thus, Necaxa is betting on a demanding preseason with top-tier opponents and a well-structured schedule that will serve as a basis for trying to improve its numbers in the next campaign.
