USA. U.S. Sets World Record in Women Medley Relay in Singapore

The U.S. women's team closed out their run at the 2025 World Swimming Championships in Singapore with a flourish by setting a new world record in the 4x100m medley relay. The quartet of Regan Smith, Kate Douglass, Gretchen Walsh, and Torri Huske clocked 3:49.34, beating the U.S. team's own record set at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games by 0.029 seconds. The victory, in addition to being a show of power, allowed the United States to take the lead in the medal table, adding their ninth gold medal. Australia, their closest rival, took home eight gold medals. In total, the Americans won 29 medals (9 gold, 11 silver, and 9 bronze), far ahead of Australia's 20.

The American team took a comfortable lead in the final. They beat the Australian team by more than three seconds, which clocked 3:52.67 to take silver. China completed the podium with a time of 3:54.77.

Summer McIntosh and a World Championship for History

Another great figure of the championship was the Canadian Summer McIntosh, who produced one of the most outstanding performances ever seen from a female swimmer. This Sunday she won her fourth gold medal by winning the 400m individual medley with a time of 4:25.78, the fourth fastest in history.

McIntosh also won the 400m freestyle, 200m medley, and 200m butterfly. She was just one more gold medal away from equaling Michael Phelps, who remains the only swimmer with five golds at a single World Championships. The Canadian finished third in the 800m freestyle, where she was surpassed by American Katie Ledecky.

Among other notable performances, Frenchman Léon Marchand won the men's 400m medley (4:04.73), adding another gold to his tally in Singapore. He had already made history by becoming the first man to win the 200 and 400 meters combined in three consecutive World Championships.

Meanwhile, American Lilly King, A three-time Olympic champion, she competed in her final professional race in the 50m breaststroke, finishing fifth. Meanwhile, Bobby Finke took bronze in the 1500m freestyle, and the U.S. men's 4x100m medley relay finished third.
