Abel Sanchez gives his opinion on the Crawford and WBC controversy: It's not honorable
Abel Sanchez explained that Crawford wouldn't have become known if the organizations hadn't placed him in the rankings, and that's why the champion's attitude bothers him
Trainer Abel Sanchez gave his opinion on the controversy surrounding Terence Crawford and the World Boxing Council (WBC) for not paying his ends, and stated that the American fighter is not honorable.
In an interview with FightHub TV, Sanchez explained that Crawford didn't... He would have become known if the sanctioning bodies hadn't ranked him, and that's why the champion's attitude bothers him.
“Well, first of all, I think I have to say that Terence fought a great fight; a great fight. But he's tarnishing it by not being honorable. He's tarnishing that great victory he just had by not being honorable and not fulfilling, not only his responsibility, but his promises. The WBC made it possible… I shouldn't say just the WBC, the sanctioning bodies made it possible for Terence to become known. If he were fighting for belt X, Y, or Z in his hometown and it wasn't a world title, then nobody would know him,” he said.
“The reason he had the opportunity to fight for that kind of money is because the sanctioning bodies were ranking him and giving him opportunities to fight for titles. He became known because of the sanctioning bodies, not because he's Terence Crawford. If he had said before the fight, 'I'm not going to pay,' then the WBC wouldn't have sanctioned the fight. Then the two could have walked away.” in opposite directions, but he agreed to pay, he agreed to that amount. So I think it's a shame he's not doing it. Terence Crawford earned $50 million not because he's Terence Crawford, he earned it because the organizations put him there," he added. Recall that during the 63rd Annual WBC Convention in Bangkok, Thailand, President Mauricio Sulaiman explained that the organization proposed reducing the fees from 3% to 0.6% after his victory over Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in order for him to keep his belt. But, despite efforts to resolve the issue, they received no response from the American fighter, and for this reason, the WBC decided to strip him of the title.
That adjustment was valued at $300,000, of which $225,000 was to be donated to the Jose Sulaiman Fund, which is dedicated to helping boxers in need. For his part, Terence Crawford reacted to the news and asserted that Sulaiman is only upset because he beat the Mexican.
In his last appearance in the ring, Terence Crawford defeated Canelo Alvarez by unanimous decision. With this result, the American fighter dethroned the Mexican in the super middleweight division and made history by becoming an undisputed champion in a different weight class for the third time.
Terence Crawford, 37, became an undisputed champion in three different weight divisions by defeating the Mexican and made boxing history. The American fighter remains undefeated and now has 42 wins, 31 of them by knockout.
