Alvaro Fidalgo would be very close to leaving Club America
The Spanish midfielder would be one of the significant losses for Club America. Fidalgo already has his replacement on the team
Alvaro Fidalgo was one of the best signings for Club America in recent years. The Spanish midfielder was a key player in the team's three consecutive championships. However, Fidalgo's time in Liga MX may be coming to an end. The Real Madrid academy product has been a regular midfielder in Mexican soccer. Fidalgo's level of play has made him eligible for the Mexican national team, but he has also attracted the attention of foreign clubs. According to Julio Ibanez for TUDN, Alvaro Fidalgo has some suitors in Europe. But Club America's management already has a possible replacement on their radar—an expensive, but high-caliber player in Major League Soccer. "There have been some approaches from Europe, and if the interest in the Spaniard materializes, the management understands that perhaps the number one candidate (to replace him) would be Obed Vargas. It won't be resolved soon," the report states. Obed Vargas is a target contingent on Alvaro Fidalgo's departure. Should the Spaniard's departure materialize, America is looking to Vargas as a top-level replacement, which would be a major coup in the transfer market. Vargas is valued at over $10 million.
“First, the offer for Alvaro Fidalgo must be finalized. And America would make the financial effort to bring in Obed Vargas,” the report adds. The proceeds from the hypothetical sale of Fidalgo would be the transaction that facilitates these moves.
A Footprint at America
Alvaro Fidalgo left CD Castellon in February 2021 to wear the colors of America, then managed by Santiago Solari. Since arriving in Mexico, Fidalgo has showcased his qualities and European experience.
To date, Fidalgo has played 225 matches in the blue and cream jersey. The midfielder, born in Oviedo, has played over 17,800 minutes on the pitch, contributing 22 goals and 30 assists, in addition to defensive stability and clean distribution. Alvaro Fidalgo's contract expires in June 2026.This is why America would have to offload him during the winter transfer window if a contract renewal isn't planned. The Spaniard's market value is around $10.5 million.
