Anthony Yarde doesn't feel pressure for his fight with Benavidez
Anthony Yarde commented that he feels like a winner just for receiving the opportunity and made it clear that he will prove he is one of the best
Anthony Yarde assured that he doesn't feel pressure to fight David Benavidez, the World Boxing Council (WBC) 175-pound champion, this Saturday, November 22, in Saudi Arabia.
In statements to the press upon his official arrival in Riyadh, Yarde commented that he feels like a winner just for receiving the opportunity and made it clear that he will prove he is one of the best in the division.
“I don’t feel any pressure. I’m an excellent fighter. I just have to show people that with a little more experience, I can be the best in the (light heavyweight) division,” he said.
“My mentality is that I’ve already won. Coming from where I’ve come from, reaching this stage for the third time and arriving in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, I feel like I’ve already won,” he said.
According to expert opinion, the British boxer is one of the most dangerous challengers David Benavidez will face at 175 pounds due to his great power. Despite this, the Mexican-American remains the favorite to win. Recall that after Dmitry Bivol decided to vacate his WBC title, the Mexican Monster became the undisputed champion of the division and expressed interest in fighting Callum Smith or Anthony Yarde. Ultimately, Yarde secured the challenger position, and this will be his third opportunity to try and become a world champion. The Mexican Monster, on the other hand, will be making his first title defense after dominating David Morrell Jr. in his last appearance in the ring this past February. Anthony Yarde, 33, is coming off a victory over Lyndor Arthur last April and could now become the WBC light heavyweight champion. The English fighter has 27 wins (24 by knockout) and three losses. David Benavidez, 29, won the WBA regular 175-pound title after defeating David Morrell by decision in his last fight. The Mexican Monster boasts a record of 30 wins, 24 by knockout, and no losses in his professional career.
