The 31-year-old Argentine striker was long linked with Pumas de la UNAM. However, in recent days he has begun to distance himself from the Mexican team.

The Spanish newspaper Sport itself explains how feasible a transaction between Real Betis and Pumas de la UNAM was. The possibility was tangible. But it was Avila himself who reportedly opted to stay in Spanish football.

"Everything pointed to the deal being closed after a loan offer with an option to buy, but ultimately the player opted to break off the deal and stay in the Andalusian capital," the report explains.

This report was accompanied by statements from Real Betis sporting director Manu Fajardo. The manager explained that Chimy is eligible for the first team squad and will receive his opportunities.

“Avila is a first team player, who trains at 200 percent every day, who is at the coach's disposal, and when they deem it appropriate, they will get the most out of him, just like they would from other teammates,” the manager explained.

Los Pumas had millions

Reports indicated that Pumas de la UNAM intended to complete a loan with a purchase option for $2.3 million dollars. This was a very reasonable figure considering the Argentine striker would be 32 years old.

Pumas de la UNAM would also have fully covered Chimy's salary, meaning they would pay $1.1 million dollars annually. For Betis, it was a more than acceptable proposal; For Avila, not so much.
