Daughters of Maradona sue the judge who annulled the first trial for the death of the ex-footballer
Dalma and Gianinna Maradona claim compensation for alleged moral damages and losses after the fall of the first trial
The daughters of Diego Armando Maradona, Dalma and Gianinna Maradona, filed a lawsuit for “damages” against judge Julieta Makintach, marked as responses able of the annulment of the first trial for the death of the Argentine idol, after his alleged participation in an unauthorized documentary on the case was revealed.
The judicial action, disseminated this Wednesday by local media and confirmed to EFE by one of the lawyers of the daughters of the former soccer player, demands compensation of 300 million Argentine pesos, equivalent to about $212,766 dollars.
Why did they sue Judge Julieta Makintach?
According to the judicial brief, Dalma and Gianinna maintain that they suffered strong moral damage after the annulment of the process investigating Maradona's death, which occurred on November 25,2020.
“We have a legitimate direct interest in the moral damage suffered due to the affectation of the memory, honor and right to a fair trial of our father who was frustrated by the unscrupulous acts of the dismissed judge Julieta Makintach”, the plaintiffs assured, according to a document cited by the newspaper Clarín.
The lawsuit also points against the production company ‘La Doble S.A.’, the interior decorator María Pía Alemán and the screenwriter Juan Manuel D’E milio, who would be linked to the making of the documentary titled 'Divine Justice', a project that was never released.
They accuse “illegal and negligent” conduct in the Maradona case
In the judicial presentation, the lawyers for the daughters of the world champion qualified the acts of the magistrate as “illegal” and noted that her conduct was “careless, irregular, illegal and negligent.”
Makintach was recused from trial on 27 May 2025, after various evidence related to her alleged participation in the production au diovisual on the case. Just two days later, the Justice decreed the nullity of the judicial process, which until that moment accumulated 21 hearings and 44 witnesses.
Subsequently, the judge was dismissed and perpetually disqualified from holding offices within the Judicial Power.
The new trial for the death of Diego Maradona has already begun
After the annulment of the first process, on 14 April a new trial began in the courts of San Isidro to determine ar the responsibility of seven health professionals accused of homicide with intentional possibility for the death of Diego Maradona.
The case continues to generate a strong media impact in Argentina and keeps under the magnifying glass those involved in the medical environment that cared for the former soccer player during his last days.
