Eddie Hearn, promoter of Matchroom Boxing, commented that he hopes Vergil Ortiz and his team really want to fight Jaron 'Boots' Ennis if he beats Erickson Lubin this Saturday, November 8.

In an interview with The Ring magazine, Hearn stated that he will travel with Boots Ennis to Dallas to watch the Ortiz Jr. fight and pressure them to make the fight happen afterward. “You always want to win a world title, but the truth is, the best fight you can make in the 154-pound division is Boots versus Vergil Ortiz. (…) This is the fight everyone is talking about. So Boots and I are going to Dallas to watch Vergil Ortiz fight Lubin and show our interest in making it happen. I know Oscar and Eric also want to put on big fights,” he said. “I think they’re willing, so I just hope Vergil and his team really want it. Because, to me, it’s the best fight in the division. If we can’t get it, we can’t get Vergil Ortiz to fight. But if he doesn’t want to take it, of course, we’ll go after the winner of Murtazaliev versus Kelly, or maybe the WBA champion.” “Abass Baraou, ourselves,” he added. In the past, Jaron Ennis and Vergil Ortiz Jr. were in negotiations to face each other at 147 pounds, but Boots preferred not to take the fight at that time. The Mexican-American moved up to 154 pounds and became the WBC interim junior middleweight champion, while the American remained in the division and became the unified champion. Jaron Ennis made a spectacular debut at 154 pounds by knocking out Uisma Lima in the first round. The American now wants to face the winner of the fight between the Mexican-American and Erickson Lubin. In his last fight, Ortiz Jr. retained his interim title by defeating Israil Madrimov by unanimous decision. Now the champion will step into the ring against Lubin at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. Jaron 'Boots' Ennis, 27, is a former unified IBF and WBA welterweight champion, and made a strong debut at 154 pounds. The American fighter is undefeated after 36 fights, 31 of them by knockout. Vergil Ortiz Jr., 24, defended his interim WBC super welterweight championship and is ready to face anyone next. The Mexican-American boxer maintains his undefeated record after 23 fights, 21 of them by knockout in his professional career.
