England will train at the Pumas facilities before facing Mexico
The Three Lions chose the UNAM facilities to adapt to the altitude before facing El Tri in the round of 16
The England team has already defined part of its strategy to face the Mexico team in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup. Aware of the challenge of playing at 2,240 meters above sea level, the team led by Thomas Tuchel will train at the Pumas Quarry, facilities that were chosen for their conditions and privacy.
The announcement was made by Luis Raúl González, president of Club Universidad, who confirmed that the English team will use the UNAM fields during their stay in Mexico City.
Pumas quarry will receive the England team
During the presentation of Puma as the new sponsor of the university club, Luis Raúl González confirmed that the England team will carry out its preparation at the Pumas Academy before the match against Mexico.
"Yes, the English National Team will actually train here; we had told you that, according to the level of maintenance that our fields have, it was selected and it is effectively confirmed," he said.
The Auriazules facilities were chosen due to the state of their fields and the privacy offered by court 2, located in an area with restricted access.
The height of Mexico City influences English planning
In addition to training at the Pumas Quarry, the British delegation plans to arrive in the Mexican capital earlier than usual.
The intention is to settle in two days before the match, instead of doing so the day before as usually happens during the tournament, with the aim of beginning a process of adaptation to the altitude before the duel against the Mexican team.
The special preparation comes after Thomas Tuchel himself recognized that playing in Mexico City represents a physical disadvantage for his team.
Pumas celebrates the visit of a world power
For the president of the University Club, receiving one of the favorite teams of the tournament represents recognition of the work carried out by the institution in maintaining its facilities.
“A privilege,” said Luis Raúl González, who highlighted the importance of the England team having chosen the Pumas Academy as its training center.
