FIFA opens investigation against El Salvador for improper behavior
According to reports, Salvadoran fans made racist insults to Surinamese players after winning the Concacaf Qualifiers
FIFA opened disciplinary proceedings against the El Salvador Football Federation for “improper behavior” by “some fans” during the game between the Salvadoran national team and Suriname in the Concacaf Qualifiers.
The Surinamese national football team reported that its players and coaching staff suffered “insults” racists” on Monday night after the match against El Salvador at the Cuscatlan Stadium in the capital.
This occurred after Suriname's 2-1 victory on Salvadoran soil in the second matchday of Group A of the Concacaf 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.
According to a publication by the local sports newspaper El Grafico, the Suriname Football Federation (SVB) condemned the racist insults suffered in San Salvador and announced that it will file a formal complaint with FIFA and Concacaf, demanding that disciplinary measures be applied against the Salvadoran federation.
In addition, the newspaper noted in another publication that the press delegate of the South American team, Quaraisy Nagessersing, said that after the final whistle and while the players thanked the public, some of the fans began to shout racial insults at them.
“People in the stands shouted: 'they are 'blacks', 'they're monkeys' and many more insults. That was not nice, it's not acceptable," Quaraisy said in an interview on the radio program Guiri Guiri al Aire, on El Grafico.
Salvadoran Federation offers support to FIFA
Fesfut indicated in the statement that they will work with the relevant FIFA bodies and will provide all the necessary information and documentation within the open procedure.
The entity noted that it "absolutely" rejects any form of racism, discrimination or homophobic offenses inside and outside the stadiums" and added that "we share FIFA's zero tolerance policy" and "we reiterate our commitment to respect, inclusion and the values ??of 'fair play' that must prevail in football."
