“Operativo Enjambre”: former Mexican mayor arrested for alleged links to drug trafficking
Antonio Domínguez Aragón, former mayor of Ayala, Morelos, is investigated for his alleged participation in activities related to organized crime
Federal authorities arrested Antonio Domínguez Aragón, former mayor of Ayala, Morelos, as part of the so-called Swarm Operation, a strategy focused on investigating alleged links between former public officials and organized crime groups.
In the same operation, Roberto “N”, former municipal secretary of that city council, was also arrested.
The capture occurred during the early hours of June 25 in an operation coordinated by elements of the National Guard, the Attorney General's Office (FGR), the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) and the Secretariat of National Defense (Defense).
According to the first reports, Domínguez Aragón is being investigated for his alleged participation in activities related to organized crime and for possible acts of extortion against ejidatarios in the eastern region of Morelos. So far, federal authorities have not officially reported the specific crimes that will be charged.
Antonio Domínguez Aragón governed the municipality of Ayala during the period 2016-2018 under the acronym of the PRI. In addition to serving as municipal president, he was a local deputy and headed the Cuautla River Users Association, an organization linked to agricultural producers in the area.
His arrest is in addition to the actions undertaken by the federal government within Operation Enjambre, through which investigations and captures of public servants and former public servants allegedly related to criminal organizations have been carried out in different entities of the country.
Former municipal secretary Roberto “N” was also detained during the deployment and both were at the disposal of the ministerial authorities, who will determine their legal situation as the investigations progress.
