Miguel Rojas will retire in 2026 and hopes to do so with the Dodgers
Miguel Rojas has a contract through the 2025 season and hopes to play one more year with the Dodgers before retiring
Miguel Rojas, Dodgers shortstop, announced Thursday that he will retire from Major League Baseball in the 2026 season.
Rojas, who has been with the Dodgers for four years, spoke about his retirement during the celebrations after qualifying for the League Championship Series National.
The 36-year-old Venezuelan infielder explained that he wants to finish his career with the Dodgers. His contract expires after this season.
“I’m 36 years old. It’s been an incredible experience. I’ve given everything I’ve given these four years here. I hope I can finish my career here, because I’ll retire next year,” said the slugger.
Rojas had a .262 batting average with 76 hits, 7 home runs, 27 RBIs, and 35 runs scored in 114 games this season.
Miguel Rojas and his leadership on the team
Although Miguel Rojas’ numbers are not comparable to the Dodgers’ great stars, his leadership has significant value within the franchise.
In 2024 and 2025, the Venezuelan has won the Roy Campanella Award, which is given to the player with the greatest leadership within the Dodgers and is chosen by the team members themselves.
He has also been an important piece within the team for Dave Roberts for his versatility in adapting to various positions and staying healthy when other teammates have not been able to play.
Rojas has played 12 seasons with the Marlins and the Dodgers. He has a batting average of .260, 989 hits, 57 home runs, 363 RBIs and 434 runs scored.
He won a World Series ring with the Dodgers last season. It is worth noting that Rojas debuted in 2014 with Los Angeles and was then traded to the Marlins, but returned to the franchise in 2023.
Along with the Dodgers, he is preparing for his second consecutive Championship Series and seeks to become the first two-time champion in the Major Leagues in 25 years.
