Terence Crawford lashed out at the World Boxing Council (WBC) and its president Mauricio Sulaiman after being stripped of his title for not paying the penalty for his last two fights.
In an Instagram Live, Crawford commented that Sulaiman is upset because he beat Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and asserted that the other sanctioning bodies accepted what he gave them, but the WBC did not.
“I saw that Mauricio had a lot to say about me not paying him $300,000, plus another $100,000 and something for sanctioning fees. And he said that I didn't apologize to him. Who the hell does he think I am? You better slap yourself. I'm not going to pay you. What are you talking about? What makes you damn better than the other sanctioning bodies? It's free. You can keep your "Damn belt. It's just a trophy anyway. Why do I have to pay you every time I step into the fucking ring? It doesn't make sense. I'm the one risking my life in there, not you. You should be paying me to carry your belt, to be honest," he added. As a reminder, during the 63rd Annual WBC Convention in Bangkok, Thailand, Sulaiman explained that the WBC proposed reducing their fees from 3% to 0.6% after his victory over the Mexican, but despite efforts to resolve the issue, they received no response from the American. For this reason, he was stripped.
That adjustment was worth $300,000, of which $225,000 was to be donated to the Jose Sulaiman Fund, which is dedicated to helping boxers in need.
“And then he says I supposedly earned 50 million in the fight with Alvarez. You don't know how much I earned. Again, you're speculating. So listen, Mauricio: I appreciate you, because everyone knows you were rooting for Canelo. You were upset because I beat Canelo. That's fine, these things happen. If you were a true fan of the sport,You should have said 'congratulations' instead of putting that little smile on your face, all angry and pouting. You should have taken the money and been grateful that I was carrying your belt as your champion, the WBC champion, the undisputed champion," he said. In his last appearance in the ring, Terence Crawford defeated Canelo Alvarez by unanimous decision. With this result, the American fighter dethroned the Mexican in the super middleweight division and made history by becoming an undisputed champion in a different weight class for the third time. Terence Crawford, 37, became the undisputed champion of three different divisions by defeating the Mexican and made boxing history. The American fighter remains undefeated and now has 42 wins, 31 of them by knockout.
