The first duel of the day had the hard-fought qualification of Egypt at the Dallas Stadium in Arlington. In regulation time, and in aggregate, the duel ended tied 1-1 with the Australians. On penalties, the Egyptians qualified in a shootout that ended 2-4. Egypt will face Argentina in the next round.
The other duel of the day featured the teams of Argentina and Cape Verde. Both teams finished the 90 minutes with a 1-1 tie thanks to goals from Lionel Messi and Deroy Duarte. In extra time, the combative Cape Verdeans kept the tie 2-2 with a great goal from Sidny Lopes Cabral. But an own goal by Diney in the 111th minute gave the Albiceleste qualification at the Miami Stadium.
The last game of the day took place at Kansas City Stadium. The Colombian team beat Ghana 1-0 with a goal from Jhon Arias 14 minutes into the first half. The coffee growers will face Switzerland in the next round.
