Yan Diomande (Abidjan, 2006), signed by Real Madrid for the next seven seasons, is a forward with devilish speed and scoring instinct who chooses the white fiefdom like Cristiano Ronaldo, his childhood idol, and who aspires to be the best in the world to fulfill the promise he made to his little sister, who died in 2025.

The young Ivorian, who has been capped 14 times for his national team, including the last World Cup, arrives at the white team from RB Leipzig after unleashing a bidding war that forced an entire PSG to withdraw due to “completely disproportionate” transfer and salary demands.

However, Europe did not always love him so much. He spent his youth training in academies in the United States before trying out for teams such as Bournemouth, Chelsea, Rangers, Olympiacos and Crystal Palace. No one gave him the chance then.

Finally, Diomande made his professional debut with Leganés, paradoxes of life, precisely against Real Madrid, on March 29, 2025. As he himself recognized in a letter published in 'The Players' Tribune', Cristiano Ronaldo was his idol, the player he wanted to be like. And, after that match, he exchanged his shirt with that of Kylian Mbappé, who will now be his teammate.

He had arrived at the cucumber club in November 2024, at just 18 years old, and only three games with the reserve team helped Borja Jiménez, then coach, decide that he had to be part of the first team.

However, the memory of the debut would be forever stained for Diomande. According to his testimony in 'The Players' Tribune', a few weeks later he received a call from the Ivory Coast that changed his life: his 15-year-old sister Roxane had died after someone put an undetermined substance in her drink.

Amidst the pain, the Ivorian found the energy to honor his sister's memory. "Everything I do on a football field, I do for you. You told everyone: 'My brother is going to be the best in the world'. I will prove that you were right, or I will die trying," he said.

He finished the 2024/2025 season with two goals and one assist in ten games, in addition to showing his speed, overflow and dribbling ability. Despite his contribution, Leganés were relegated, and Diomande headed to RB Leipzig for 20 million euros, the value of his termination clause.

With the German team, 12 goals and 9 assists in 33 games in the Bundesliga (and a little more in the German Cup) earned him the title of best debutant in the competition. He qualified Leipzig for the Champions League and was part of the best eleven of under-21 players in the German championship.

And, to finish a dream 2025/2026 season, he participated in the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. He had already played matches with Ivory Coast, with whom he debuted in October 2025, but a World Cup was for him “a dream come true.” A player of the match trophy (against Ecuador) and an assist against Curacao were his baggage.

The interest of Real Madrid confirms the launch to stardom of a Diomande who, in 2026, had already signed with the representation agency Roc Nation, founded by rapper Jay-Z, and with the sports equipment brand New Balance. A year that would make his sister Roxane proud.
