The United States government intensified its offensive against the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) by announcing new criminal charges against members of the criminal organization, as well as rewards that exceed 100 million dollars for information that allows the capture of several of its main leaders.
Following the announcement made by the US Department of Justice, the US ambassador to Mexico, Ronald Johnson, stated that the actions are part of a strategy to dismantle the structure of the criminal group and warned that not only its leaders will be persecuted, but also those who collaborate with the organization.
“They will be found and held accountable,” the diplomat said in a message spread on social networks, in which he reiterated Washington's commitment to act against the criminal organization in coordination with the Mexican authorities.
Johnson welcomed the filing of new criminal charges and the offering of rewards of more than $100 million against eight alleged leaders and operators of the CJNG, noting that these measures represent a significant blow against an organization that the United States considers a threat to regional security.
The ambassador also assured that pressure against the cartels will continue to increase and maintained that bilateral cooperation in security will continue to be a central axis between both governments to combat drug trafficking, money laundering and other organized crime activities.
According to US authorities, the accusations are part of a comprehensive strategy that includes judicial processes, economic sanctions, immigration restrictions and rewards to obtain information that leads to the capture of high-level members of the CJNG.
The US government maintains that these measures seek to weaken the operational and financial capacity of the CJNG, one of the criminal organizations with the greatest presence in Mexico and with operations linked to international drug trafficking.
