Lucid Motors rearranged the schedule of its upcoming launches and confirmed that the long-awaited Cosmos electric SUV will no longer arrive anytime soon.

The company decided to postpone its debut until 2027, a measure that coincides with a process of internal adjustments and a strategy focused on strengthening its business before expanding its portfolio.

While that project continues to advance, the American brand will concentrate its efforts on another novelty. This is a high-performance variant of the Lucid Gravity, a model that will seek to become one of the most powerful and fastest electric SUVs in its category.
The Cosmos will need more time
The Cosmos will be the first representative of a new generation of mid-size electric vehicles developed by Lucid. Although initially planned for a closer date, the company confirmed that production will begin during the second half of 2027.
Currently, the vehicle continues to go through different validation phases. Engineers work on resistance tests, structural evaluations, safety certifications, battery development and testing under extreme weather conditions to ensure that the model reaches the market with the standards expected by the company.
A platform to reduce costs
The new SUV will debut the Midsize architecture, a completely new platform with which Lucid aims to reduce manufacturing costs without sacrificing efficiency, autonomy or performance.
Thanks to this technological base, the brand hopes to offer models with greater range per charge, better performance and an initial price of less than $50,000, a figure with which it will seek to compete more directly in one of the fastest growing segments of the US market.
In addition to the Cosmos, Lucid has already confirmed the development of a second SUV called Earth, aimed at more family and recreational use. The company is also working on a third member of this family, although it is still keeping the details of the project confidential.
Gravity will be the big news
While the Cosmos continues to evolve, the spotlight will fall on Gravity. Lucid announced that it will take advantage of the upcoming Monterey Car Week, in California, to present a high-performance version inspired by the Air Sapphire.
Although the company has not yet released official specifications, this SUV is expected to incorporate much of the technology from the brand's sports sedan.
The Air Sapphire develops 1,234 horsepower, so the new Gravity promises to be among the highest-performance electric vehicles available on the market.
The strategy update comes after Lucid presented its second quarter financial results, a period in which it reported higher-than-expected losses and a slight reduction in revenue.
