The peso continues to maintain a strong pace in the exchange rate against the dollar. Although the price of the greenback rose a little in value today, Thursday, August 6, compared to the previous day's close, the price continues to favor the Mexican currency. Good news? It will depend on whether you are going to buy dollars or send remittances.
The price of the dollar in Mexico stood this Thursday, August 6, 2026 at an average of $17.25 pesos per greenback. During the opening of the day, the US currency was quoted at $17.22 pesos, a slight decrease of 0.07% compared to the previous close of $17.23 pesos, according to Dow Jones data.
Although the daily variation has been minimal, recent behavior reflects a downward trend. In the last seven days, the dollar has accumulated a drop of 0.77%, while compared to the same period last year it has registered a drop of 8.12%, which confirms the strength that the Mexican peso has shown against the US currency in recent months.
The negative trend in the exchange rate has also continued during the last three days. Added to this is a volatility of 3.15%, a level considerably lower than the reference index of 7.43%. This behavior is usually interpreted as a sign of relative stability in the exchange market, since price fluctuations have been moderate.
The strengthening of the peso occurred after a favorable day for the Mexican currency this Wednesday, August 5. The markets remained attentive to the monetary policy decision of the Bank of Mexico (Banxico), scheduled for this Thursday, an event that usually influences the behavior of the exchange rate and the expectations of investors and financial market participants.
The Bank of Mexico (Banxico) reported that the official closing of the dollar corresponding to Wednesday, August 5, was $17.2423 pesos per unit. This value is obtained from the average of the banking operations carried out during the day. However, because the dollar price continues to change throughout the day, the exchange rate against the peso ended the session around $17.24 pesos for each US currency.
Banxico published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) that the FIX exchange rate for this Thursday was established at $17.2317 pesos per dollar. This indicator works as an official reference used in different contracts, financial operations and procedures in Mexico.
On the other hand, the exchange rate applicable for the payment of obligations denominated in foreign currency was set at $17.2717 pesos per dollar. This value is the one used when a person or company must settle an obligation agreed in dollars within the national territory.
