Without concrete agreements for combat
“The truth is we don't really know anything, all of this is up in the air,” explained Vaquero Navarrete when asked about the real possibilities of the confrontation.
The boxer pointed out that, although his name is frequently mentioned by fans and various promoters, he has not received notifications of closed fights.
However, the Mexican acknowledged that the rival's profile is of complete professional interest to him. “Yes, there was a little comment about the Ukrainian thing, because that is what people are commenting on and so is Gustavo Olivieri,” added the champion about the origin of the recent rumors.
Sports interest and the position of the WBO
For the Mexican athlete, facing renowned figures constitutes a high-level professional challenge. Vaquero Navarrete highlighted the Ukrainian's skills in the ring: “He is a very complete fencer and a difficult opponent to beat,” the monarch pointed out before the Box Azteca cameras.
For his part, the president of the World Boxing Organization, Gustavo Olivieri, has provided a scenario that would allow such a meeting. Through a statement, the leader pointed out that, due to Lomachenko's historical merits, the executive committee could approve a direct opportunity for the belt without the need for prior eliminators.
The panorama of Vasiliy Lomachenko
The Ukrainian, who has stayed away from professional activity since June 2025 after his victory over George Kambosos Jr., now has contractual freedom.
After his relationship with the Top Rank company expired, the veteran is looking for challenges of immediate relevance upon his return.
Despite the administrative facilities offered by the sanctioning entity, the last word falls on the logistics of both training camps. For now, Vaquero Navarrete's agenda remains focused on defending his current championships while he waits for official confirmation of his next professional commitment.
