Samsung has just released a message that many users have been waiting for for a long time: the moment when the memory of our PCs will once again have reasonable prices is beginning to be seen on the horizon and that key point points directly to 2029.

Samsung recognizes that the memory shortage is going to last a long time

In its second quarter earnings conference, Samsung was very clear with analysts that the memory chip shortage is not only not going to be solved quickly but is going to get worse in the coming years. The semiconductor division has skyrocketed its profits more than 250 times compared to 2025, driven by the brutal demand for memory for artificial intelligence and data centers, which also explains the enthusiasm of investors.

The company has signed long-term agreements with the world's five largest data center companies with a minimum duration of five years covering 60 to 70 percent of its total memory manufacturing capacity.

If those contracts have now been closed and begin to be applied in this investment cycle it means that the majority of Samsung's factories will remain committed to the cloud giants for approximately five years. Memory that could relieve the consumer market and lower prices for PC modules and SSDs will not begin to be released significantly until that period ends.

Although Samsung never literally pronounces the figure 2029 as the year of salvation for PC users, the reading of these agreements allows us to point precisely to that horizon. When those contracts begin to expire and the new Samsung SK hynix and Micron plants come into full operation, total capacity could finally begin to match demand and open the door to price normalization.
