Vertu Alphafold: the $6,880 cell phone that redefines technological luxury
Crocodile skin, gold, diamonds and an AI assistant that controls your executive life: this is the most luxurious foldable of the moment.
If you thought that a high-end foldable was already expensive, get ready because the Vertu Alphafold arrives to break any price scale you knew. This British device starts at $6,880 in its calfskin version and can go up to $46,800 in its 18-karat gold and diamond edition.
The brand, which in the past had already been synonymous with ultra-exclusive phones, returns to the market betting on a formula that combines artisanal materials with business-level artificial intelligence.
The first thing that stands out is that we are not talking about a phone for the average consumer. Vertu aims directly at executives, CEOs and corporate profiles who need a device that works almost like a portable office. The brand describes it as a “command center” with artificial intelligence, something that goes far beyond simply taking photos or sending messages.
Why does the Vertu Alphafold cost so much?
The price of the Alphafold is not explained solely by its internal components, but by a mix of exclusive materials, brand exclusivity and premium services. The base version comes in calfskin, but there are also crocodile leather options (which raises the price to $8,800) and customized variants with gold and diamonds that shoot up the value to more than $40,000.
In addition to the visual luxury, the phone includes a dedicated A5 security chip, a triple isolation system, end-to-end encryption and a 24-hour concierge service. It also adds support for two-way satellite messaging, something rare even in the most expensive flagships on the market. All of this is part of a proposal that seeks to sell exclusivity as well as functionality.
It is worth mentioning something curious that several specialized media pointed out: the internal specifications are not necessarily the most advanced on the market. The processor is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite, released in 2024, and not the most recent version. This generated some surprise because, at that price, many expected cutting-edge silicon.
Alphafold technical specifications
In terms of hardware, the Alphafold relies on an 8.05-inch folding screen with 2480x2200 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, complemented by a 6.53-inch external screen. Peak brightness reaches up to 5,000 nits in HDR mode, a figure that exceeds most current foldables.
These are the main specifications that the device brings:
What makes Alphafold special?
The truly distinctive thing about the Alphafold is not in the cold numbers on its technical sheet, but in its artificial intelligence assistant called Hermes Agent. This system can control over 70 apps and run up to 64 device settings with just voice commands. Vertu's idea is that the user can automate complete workflows, from email management to integration with private ERP and CRM systems.
Hermes Agent also incorporates support for AI models such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, giving it flexibility to adapt to different executive productivity tasks. This capacity for “orchestration” of apps and automated flows is, according to Vertu, what justifies the price jump compared to a conventional folding device.
Another point that adds exclusivity is Private Space, a reinforced privacy function designed to protect sensitive communications from senior executives. Coupled with personalized concierge service and handcrafted materials, the Alphafold presents itself less as a traditional phone and more as a status accessory with built-in digital superpowers.
