FIFA investigates irregularities in contract of Carlo Ancelotti with Brazil
An intermediary received more than a million dollars in the negotiations between Brazil and Ancelotti
FIFA is investigating Carlo Ancelotti's contract with the Brazilian national team due to alleged irregularities.
The irregularity arises from the businessman who acted as an intermediary between the two parties.
The international organization questioned the fact that the intermediary, Diego Fernandes, is not registered as an agent with FIFA, which represents a "potential breach" of the rules of the entity, according to an official letter sent to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).
In the letter, released by Brazilian media, FIFA requests the sending of all documents and messages related to the agreement signed with that businessman, as well as a copy of any payment receipts.
Diego Fernandes received more than one million dollars
Diego Fernandes stated, in a press release, that he expects to receive the commission from the negotiation after he formalizes his registration as an intermediary agent in football.
“Diego acted formally as a consultant, due to the short period of time given” for the negotiation with Ancelotti, “which would be incompatible with the registration process as a football agent with FIFA,” states the statement sent to the media outlet 'Ge'.
According to the media outlet 'UOL', the CBF agreed to pay a commission of 1.2 million euros to Fernandes, who accompanied Ancelotti on his flight to Rio de Janeiro last Sunday.
Fernandes is the executive director of 08 Partners, a financial firm that, according to media reports, provides advisory services to several athletes.
The CBF stated that its governance department is "evaluating" the situation and recalled that the agreement with Ancelotti, which is confidential, was negotiated by the administration of former president Ednaldo Rodrigues, who was dismissed last April by court order over alleged fraud in the signing of a document.
