Huntington Park, a community with more than 95% Latino population and up to 45% immigrant residents, has been left virtually deserted after a wave of ICE raids. What was once bustling streets and businesses is now quiet and empty as fear grows among its residents.

According to CBS News, the town has become a veritable ghost town in the heart of Los Angeles County, while The Guardian highlights the intimidation tactics employed by authorities.

Local authorities have begun to despair over the impact on daily life and the social fabric. Mayor Arturo Flores, a war veteran, called these actions a form of "domestic terror" designed to instill fear and social control.

Community Strategies to Evade ICE Presence

To avoid encounters with immigration agents, residents and business owners have adopted self-protection tactics. Stores on main streets like Pacific Boulevard operate behind closed doors, offering service only to known customers or those who knock discreetly.

Families have minimized their children's outings to school, community events, and visits downtown, losing their social and commercial network.

One of the people interviewed by CBS News commented: People were afraid to go home, illustrating how basic activities, such as shopping or taking children to school, came to a standstill. Meanwhile, Mayor Flores shared: "It's a level of psychological warfare that I've only seen in combat zones," underscoring the level of tension imposed on the community.

Impact of ICE and other immigration enforcement agencies on the community

The impact of these operations has been devastating on the local economy. Many businesses are reporting drastic drops in sales, and events like community movie nights have practically ceased to take place; at one event, only four families attended.

If the above weren't enough,Some operations have caused real terror due to the method of execution. According to The Guardian, federal agents violently stormed a home in the early hours of the morning in recent weeks, using explosives to enter a house where two young children lived. The occupant, Jenny Ramirez, claimed they were all U.S. citizens. The operation, which included drones and tactical equipment, sowed terror and damaged trust in authorities.

These actions have dismantled community life in Huntington Park, depressing the local economy, weakening social cohesion, and sowing long-term fear among its residents, both documented and citizens.
